While enduring the grief experience, it can be difficult to accept what is no longer present in your life. The mind is filled with memories and emotions crying out for comforting connection. Strong desires to regain access to the unattainable is overwhelming at times. Hoping and wishing circumstances were more desirably different than reality. Accepting the here and now is the only way to start the healing process.
Overcome Fantasy Living
Otherwise, the frustration, sadness, anger, emotional pain, feelings of regret, anxiety, loneliness, and irritability associated with the grief condition will persist. It is alright to cherish memories of the past as long as the here and now is recognized as reality. Facing the truth is a part of the acceptance process along with acknowledging pain, letting go of hope for what will not return, and considering the future. Often, confronting today’s circumstances is very challenging to endure, although necessary in preventing fantasy living. Thinking over and over again about a hope that it is impossible to seize is fantasy living.
Moving Forward
Perpetual frustration, sadness, anger, emotional pain, feelings of regret, anxiety, loneliness, and irritability will not subside as long as reality is avoided. It is significant to acknowledge as well as express the hurt suffered in this present moment, in addition to imagining a healthy future. Anticipating a life filled with strength, vitality, and happiness is helpful in letting go of former days. Be compassionate to yourself and remember to place one foot in front of the other as you endure the tough aspects of living with loss. Don’t quit! Keep moving forward.
